About us

Brainnovation® started as a method developed by Maurice Crijns and Peter Biekens to explore a different approach to complex problem-solving: one that combines logical thinking with the deliberate use of unconscious processing.

What started as a method for strengthening creative thinking has evolved into the Six Step Cycle, a structured method for developing cognitive performance in complex environments. Through the cycle, people learn to move between focused thinking, cognitive exploration and unconscious processing.

Today, Brainnovation® Labs helps organisations move beyond cognitive narrowing, create the conditions for deeper insight and apply cognitive performance skills to real challenges with measurable impact.

Maurice Crijns is co-founder of Brainnovation Labs and a graduate of Eindhoven University of Technology. He has more than thirty years of experience in international business, including a former role as CEO of EMS, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG.

His work focuses on helping leaders move beyond purely logical, linear thinking when facing complex challenges. Through the Six Step Cycle, Maurice brings together executive experience, cognitive performance and unconscious processing to strengthen insight, decision-making and complex problem-solving.

Peter Biekens is co-founder of Brainnovation Labs and founder of Opwaarts Onderwijsontwerp. He works with organisations on cognitive performance, learning design and complex change.

His expertise lies in designing learning and development processes that help people change how they think, collaborate and solve complex problems. Through the Six Step Cycle, Peter translates research on unconscious processing and behavioural change into practical methods for deeper insight, better problem-solving and measurable impact.
